Reverend Simon Henning
Don't worry. I'm not as frightening as I look in the picture. At least I hope not........
I'm Simon and I'm married to Amanda. I have three children (Daniel, Sophie, and Ben) who have all caused me to go grey prematurely.
I have been the Minister in Ballyblack since May 2009. Before that I was the Assistant Minister in Stormont Presbyterian Church in Belfast for three years, and then I was the Superintendent of the Kinghan Mission for Deaf People in Belfast for seven years.
I consider myself an open-minded and progressive Christian and it's my aim at Ballyblack to create a welcoming congregation for anyone from any sort of background. The picture we have on the front or Order of Service (as well as on the Home Page of this website) depicts an open door and I hope that a sense of welcome is experienced by all who come through it.
Ballyblack is essentially a rural congregation with the majority of members involved in the Farming community to some degree. There are a number of people not connected to farming who make up the rest of the congregation.
We have recently renovated and upgraded our Hall in the hope that we will provide more facilities and a more welcoming atmosphere for those who come through our doors.
On the fourth Sunday of every month we have a Family Service in which the children remain in church throughout. We are experimenting with different types of music and formats, and hope to get as many of the congregation involved as possible. In the future we would aim to install an unintrusive audio-visual system.
Any questions you have about who we are or what we do, please feel free to contact me. I don't bite, and even if I do I rarely leave a permanent mark.
